Wilson Law, P.A. is a proud corporate sponsor of the world famous Durham Bulls! The Triple-A baseball team is halfway through the season, so we thought it’s a good time to review the 2014 highlights. Haven’t gotten to a game yet? You can buy tickets here!
The season kicked off in early April with the unveiling of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP) which underwent $20 million in renovations. These renovations included upgraded lighting for the field, new concessions, picnic-style seating and an expanded club-level. The Bulls won their season opener against the Gwinnett Braves 7-6. Former Smithfield-Selma Star Jerry Sands scored three runs in his big debut with the Bulls! They went on to win five of the first eight games, including an 8-1 shellacking of the Charlotte Knights. Not a bad start to the season!
The Bulls were as fierce on the road as they were at home, winning another 5 games in a row. They beat both the Gwinnett Braves and the Charlotte Knights on their turf, including a 9-2 win in Charlotte with runs by Jerry Sands and Mike Mahtook.
In May, the Bulls had mixed results against Charlotte, Scranton, Syracuse and Louisville, but came back stomping the Columbus Clippers during a five-game winning streak. The first game in the series was won thanks to a double hit by Kevin Kiermaier, breaking the tied game. The Bulls won 7-5. They were able to keep the momentum the next night with a 3-1 win. Columbus didn’t stand a chance! The Bulls won every game in the series.
The Bulls have been doing well on the road this month with big wins in Indianapolis and a 12-2 win against the Louisville Bats. This “season-best” outcome was brought on by the outstanding pitching of Alex Colome and runs by Mike Mahtook and Ray Olmedo.
Currently, the Bulls’ batting average is .255 and they are leading the International South Lead with 43 wins. We certainly see a playoff spot in the future! The next Durham Bulls home game is coming up this Friday, June 20th against the Syracuse Chiefs. The game starts at 7:05 PM. Stick around for the fireworks after what we hope to be an epic win. Go Bulls!
