Recent announcements from popular auto manufacturer Ford Motor Company have ushered in a follow-up vehicle recall for more than 300,000 Windstar minivans that were previously recalled in 2010 due to a rear-axle design flaw.
The recent recall, affecting Ford Windstar minivans built between 1998 and 2003, has been cited due to the incorrect installation of a bracket that was appointed to fix the design flaw during the initial recall. These installation errors have subsequently created issues with vehicle handling that have lead to an increased risk of otherwise preventable car accidents.
So while you might feel like vehicle recalls don’t require immediate attention because they occur so regularly, our Raleigh auto accident attorneys want you to know that it’s still important to take them seriously. Being unobservant of vehicle recalls or ignoring vehicle recall issuance can have grave consequences, whether it’s your car that’s defective or someone else’s.
Ford admitted that a number of accidents have already been linked to the Windstar rear axle defects and installation errors, though no injuries have yet been recorded.
Windstar minivan owners are encouraged to have dealerships inspect affected vehicles to ensure that the repair brackets have been correctly installed. If brackets are found to be incorrectly installed, the entire rear axle will be replaced.
This recall comes as a serious reminder of the dangers we face as consumers and as motorists. Just because manufacturers admit their mistakes doesn’t mean you’re safe, and all too often harm has already been done.
